A report from Taiwan’s DigiTimes suggests Apple is expanding its iPhone production lines with the help of Wistron and Compal Communications, as demand for the iPhone 5s remains very high.

According to industry sources (which may or may not be accurate), “Wistron is building additional capacity at its plant in Kunshan, China, which some market watchers believe may be used to fulfill smartphone orders placed by Apple.”

The manufacturer is said to be increasing capex by NT$2.86 billion (US$97.27 million) “to build new capacity and fulfill demand for communications products.”

Curiously, the report says the IT market is teeming with rumors that Apple will seek the help of Winstron and Compal to build iPhones and iPads in the future. These companies will allegedly start supplying products to Apple in 2014.

The report doesn’t make it clear whether or not Foxconn and / or Pegatron will remain in the supply chain, but it’s likely that Wistron and Compal will merely chime in to help with the massive orders.
