A quick check with the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts web site reveals that the venue has been booked on Thursday 3/1/12 and Thursday 3/8/12, leaving an open Wednesday (3/7/12) for Apple’s rumored iPad 3 event.

Although there’s hardly any confirmation that Apple even plans to host an event next month, high-placed sources in the tech industry have claimed this week that Cupertino is, indeed, hosting a special event to release the iPad 3 in the first week of March.

All bets are on the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, in San Francisco, California - Apple’s preferred venue for big announcements.

Knowing the company’s affinity for mid-week media gatherings, and considering that the aforementioned dates have been booked for two exhibitions (“Salaam Dunk” and “Better This World”), the Wednesday that falls on March 7, 2012, may just yield an on-stage appearance by Tim Cook & Co. with the purpose of unveiling the next-generation of Apple tablets and, perhaps, other surprises.
