It’s all but confirmed that Apple is holding its ceremonious iPhone 5 unveiling on September 12, which falls on a Wednesday. What’s not so certain is when (or if) Apple is coming out with an iPad mini. Two reputable pundits agree that it’s all going down this fall.

The venerable John Gruber, of Daring Fireball, has a quick take on the matter, saying we’re looking at two media events from Apple this fall, one for the iPhone 5 unveiling, the other for the iPad mini.

“I’m thinking it makes more sense for Apple to hold two events," wrote Gruber. "First, an iPhone event, focused solely on the new iPhone and iOS 6. Then, the iPhone ships nine days later, and there’s another wave of iPhone-focused attention as the reviews come out.”

“Then, in the first or second week of October, Apple holds its traditional ‘music event,’ exactly along the lines of the events at which they’ve been debuting new iPods for the last decade,” Gruber opined.

Jim Dalrymple, a well-connected Apple pundit himself, agrees: “Oh that Gruber is a smart fellow,” he writes.

Indeed, Apple has been holding its music-centric media events in the fall of every year for the past decade or so.

There has been a lot of talk about a new iPad mini coming out of Cupertino, and even a new version of the iPod nano.

Whenever Apple decides to announce this upgrade, multiple sources have corroborated a rumor about an elongated version of the portable player boasting a Home button, a larger screen, and possibly an implementation of a stripped-down iOS geared towards media.

As for the iPad mini, it is said to be Apple’s secret plan to take over the entire industry with a state-of-the-art device at an affordable price.
