Staffers at Apple retail stores worldwide are getting training materials involving the iPhone 5s and its flagship Touch ID sensor, with instructions to demo the fingerprint recognition technology to customers.

Apple will deploy a specialized software application for iPhone 5s test units on display across the company’s retail stores, allowing customers to experience the Touch ID fingerprint sensor first-hand. Or thumb.

Sources in Apple’s ecosystem are telling 9to5mac that “To test Touch ID, a customer can launch the demo app [and] setup the device to recognize a single fingerprint.”

When the user completes the setup process, the demo app is supposed to direct them to rest the same finger on the Touch ID sensor on the Home button, and “The application will then show that the Home button successfully read the fingerprint,” according to the report.

The app will also ask users to place a different finger on the Home button to demo a scenario where the authentication isn’ successful.
