People familiar with Apple’s plans for the ‘education’ event scheduled later today are telling Jason O’Grady of ZDnet that Roger Rosner, Apple's vice president of development for iWork, will announce new versions of Pages and iBooks, as well as textbook rentals.

A tweet signed @JasonOGrady directed to @techmeme reads: “A little birdie told me that Roger Rosner will announce Pages '12, iBooks 2 (with Lion support) and textbook rentals in NYC today.”

Ever since Apple confirmed its ‘education’ event this month, several sources have gone on record to state that the company was planning to introduce a software platform that aided the development of interactive e-books for iPad.

Pages 12 and a new version of iBooks would complement such an announcement, and the rumored OS X support also sounds like Apple’s modus operandi. We’ll find out soon enough.
