A research note from Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Brian White suggests Apple has much bigger plans with the iWatch than originally projected. According to White’s sources, it will be a multi-purpose tool that can even control home appliances.

The Apple iWatch is one of the most elusive prospects in recent years, and the most talked about Apple revitalizer. In a nutshell, it’s poised to take wearable computing to the next step.

And, according to research conducted by Cantor Fitzgerald’s people, the iWatch will indeed revolutionize the way we interact with devices.

One of the firm’s leading analysts, Brian White, said in a research note this week, “Our contact also discussed the ‘iWatch.’ Although thoughts around the ‘iWatch’ have been widely covered by the media, this potential device has yet to be launched, and the use case discussions have been rather rudimentary.”

“As an Apple supplier, our contact offered insight into the ‘iWatch’ and described this potential new device as much more than an extension of your iPhone but as a multi-purpose gateway in allowing consumers to control their home (i.e., heating/cooling, lights, audio, video, etc.),” White wrote.

“We found this discussion interesting as it opened our eyes to why the ‘iWatch’ has the potential to appeal to a much broader audience of consumers than just another mobile device,” he added.

Concept creators try to envision what the iWatch will look like taking key design elements from existing iDevices and mashing them up to get results like the one pictured above.

Apple has applied for numerous patents involving flexible / bendable electronics, including screens and batteries, fueling rumors that the iWatch will look a lot like the mockups created by the aforementioned designers.
