Duracell’s Toy Report lists the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad as the most preferred Christmas gifts among youngsters, with 66 per cent between the ages of 13 and 16 putting the iDevices at the top of their Christmas wish list.

17 per cent of five to eight-year-olds and half of nine to 12-year-olds did the same, according to a report by dailymail.co.uk.

Almost one in four children said their most wanted Christmas present was and Apple device, whether it was the iPhone 4, the iPad, or the iPod touch they sought.

Following Apple’s devices was Microsoft’s Kinect motion controller for Xbox 360 was the next-best thing on kids’ wish lists.

Youngsters also seem to be quite fond of the Zhu Zhu Hamster pets and their Kung Zhu Hamster spin-offs, the PlayStation Move controller and the Flip HD video camera, according to the same source.

It is clear that kids aren’t so much into toys, as they are into high-tech gizmos, since even the most familiar toy names appear at the bottom of the top ten in Duracell’s report.

Examples include the Lego Harry Potter video game and Barbie Video Girl, and the Buzz Lightyear Jet Pack.

And who’s to blame them? Parents nowadays own smartphones, laptops, and the likes. Kids aspire to grownups, therefore it’s not a mystery why they want to be in the same boat.

A spokesman for Duracell said: ‘Under-16s have become totally engaged with adult technology.’ This person claims to have questioned 2,138 children and parents online.

Just in time for the holiday season, Apple is now offering free engravings for those who purchase an iPad through its online store to offer it as a gift.

The service is also available for iPod touch devices, which sport a metal casing, but not for iPhones.
