Distimo has released its June 2010 report which covers the Apple App Store for iPad and iPhone, as well as all other major venues, including the BlackBerry App World, the Google Android Market, the Nokia Ovi Store, the Palm App Catalog, and the Windows Marketplace for Mobile. Distimo has tracked activity for May 2010 in the United States.

According to the app store analytics company, more than 50% of applications are priced below or equal to $2.00 in all stores. Exceptions are the BlackBerry App World and Windows Marketplace for Mobile. By comparison, the average price of all paid iPad apps is $4.65. That’s higher than in the iPhone App Store, where paid titles average a price of $4.01. However, the average price of the 100 top grossing applications is higher on the iPhone section of Apple’s App Store.

Nine out of the ten most popular free applications and eight out of the ten most popular paid applications in the Apple App Store for iPhone are games, according to Distimo. Both the iBooks application by Apple, Inc., and the iOS Kindle application by Amazon are ranked among the 10 most popular free applications in the Apple App Store for iPad, in what Distimo calls quite a competitive e-reader market. However, Apple’s e-book reading app is ranked number one, while Amazon’s application is ranked number ten. Other findings published by Distimo in its June report tracking May 2010 activity include:

· Google Android Market has the largest share of free applications (57%) and Windows Marketplace for Mobile has the smallest (22%). · Twitter has become the monthly number 10 free application in the Apple App Store for iPhone, and the number 6 free application in Google Android Market, after being published as a native application in the Apple App Store and Google Android Market. · Five out of the ten most popular free applications in Windows Marketplace for Mobile are published by Microsoft Corporation.
