Apple’s Tiger grabs Longhorn by the kernel

- Apple has launched Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger

As promised, Apple launched Friday the last version of the Mac operating system, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.

This version,
which is the fifth, is the most important upgrade of the operating system, because aside from 200 new features, Mac OS X Tiger also benefits from revolutionary desktop technologies.

Obviously, the most important is Spotlight, a search program integrated into the operating system, which allows finding any document on the hard disk: e-mails, audio/video files or images etc. Spotlight is for desktop what Google is for Internet.

Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger was enthusiastically received by fans, and everyone who tested the operating system wrote only favorable reviews.

But what’s really important is that until Microsoft’s Longhorn, users have to wait for another year, giving Mac OS X Tiger enough time to make even more fans.

Although it currently owns 4% of the desktop market, Apple has no problem going against Microsoft, and the feline operating system already includes revolutionary features which are still tested by the Redmond giant.

Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger has a price tag of 129 dollars and is already available at all authorized retailers.

It remains to be seen how much this operating system will influence the battle between Apple and Microsoft.

Apple’s Tiger grabs Longhorn by the kernel - USER OPINIONS

mac's osX is absolute premium. i've been working on 10.3 and have had NO problems whatsoever! i know it must be hard for windows users to imagine NEVER having a problem with their OS, but believe me it's true - no crash, no virus, no stress! as for the power.... my G4 mac originally ran on os9 and had it's occasional problems, but since i installed osX the performance of my machine has increased far beyond what i dared to expect. longhorn, or as we now know it: vista, is years behind in tech. and testing and will have considerable teething troubles, as all microsoft products. i truly hope osX is the nail in microsofts coffin because microsoft deserves nothing less than death - for all the days, months and years people from all walks of life have spent with an idiotic non-functional OS. if we calculate how many hours are wasted by millions daily who are forced to do petty maintanance then microst has already cost the human race billions of years. it is true however that microsoft are clearly the better businessmen. we have seen how they tried to kill linux in it's foetal stage. we have seen how they ruthlessly killed off netscape and now they are yet again using apples innovation to their own ends. it's about time somebody put balmer, gates and co. behind bars where they belong.
