It looks like Apple's technical support center in Bangalore is going to be massive, with 3,000 employees.

Despite the general community uproar that followed the first report of Apple opening up a technical support center in India, it looks like things are definitely moving forward.

The facility is said to be set up by property developer RMZ Corp in its EcoSpace property on the outer ring road near Marathahalli, and that Apple will initially hire 1,500 people by the end of the year, with another 1,500 to come by the end of 2007.

While Apple officials have stated that it is premature to talk on the matter, and RMZ also declined to comment, a state official has stated that the government has cleared Apple's proposal to invest in Bangalore. While the extent of investment or total employment is yet to be determined, Apple is expected to start the operation in the upcoming months.

While many have raised the issue of quality and cultural and linguistic barriers, these concerns are premature. While such barriers may indeed exist, the situation is not that different to that of Apple's hardware. Most of it comes from the same manufacturers of other PC makers, usually from Asia, and yet Apple is renowned for having much better quality hardware than the competition, why would technical support be any different.
