The rumors that are being tossed around regarding the nomenclature of Apple’s new iPhones are accurate, according to an Asian source cited by Macotakara.

The Japanese blog has been accurate on Apple rumors on several occasions, making its reporting worthy of consideration. It quotes a source in Asia as saying that “The name of coming iPhone to be iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C” (via translation).

The source has added that the more expensive iPhone 5S will sport an A7 system-on-a-chip, which likely means more processing power and better graphical output, leading to faster overall performance and (perhaps) increased battery life.

The camera sensor will stay at 8 megapixels, but will sport an f/2.0 aperture which retains more light and, therefore, delivers better pictures.

The phone will ship in the widely-rumored gold color, according to this source, while “[the] rectangle mark of home button will be removed.”

This bodes well with a research note from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, which claims that Apple is going with a convex button this time around, to accommodate a fingerprint sensor.

As far as the iPhone 5C is concerned, the dubbing is said to be related to the multiple “C-olor” variations that it sports.

“Additionally, that source told about coming low-cost iPhone, which is covered by plastic case made from polycarbonate and glass-fibre, it will be released with expected name, ‘iPhone 5C,’ the report states.

The Asian source stops here, but we’ve heard that Apple is using iPhone 5 components to make this phone.

Reusing technologies from 2012 coupled with a much cheaper plastic chassis reportedly enables Apple to sell this phone at a much lower price than before.

Rumor has it that Apple’s iPhone 5C, sold without a contract, will cost around $400 / €300, which is certainly not cheap, but a lot cheaper than the normal selling price of any iPhone (off contract) to date.
