A new, updated version of the Apple-developed MobileMe iDisk app is now available for iPhone and iPod touch users. The free application allows MobileMe subscribers to view and share files on their iDisk using their mobile device.

New in version 1.1, according to Apple, is the ability to auto-complete email addresses when choosing recipients for a shared file. Also noted as a key addition is the ability to automatically save file-sharing emails to one's Mail account's Sent folder. When viewing an image, users can now tap and hold to save it to their photo roll or copy it to another app. Other changes include: the maximum setting for cache size is now of 500MB (up from 200MB); faster downloads; various bug fixes, and localizations for Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish.

“Log in with your MobileMe username and password (MobileMe subscription required) and you'll see a list of the folders and files on your iDisk,” Apple explains. “Select a file to view it on your iPhone. To share a file with someone else, just tap the share icon, choose your recipients, and MobileMe iDisk will send them an email with a link to download your file directly from MobileMe,” goes what looks more like a set of instructions on how to use the app, rather than a typical application description.

“You can assign a password to keep your files secure and even limit the number of days the download will be available – all right from your iPhone,” Apple says, outlining the key features of its MobileMe iDisk application. The app is also capable of displaying iPhone-supported file types, including iWork, Office, PDF, QuickTime and more. Up until this point, files larger than 20MB could or could not be viewable.

iDisk requires a MobileMe subscription so, if you are not a MobileMe member, you can head here and learn more about MobileMe, or immediately sign up for the free, 60-day trial. The updated iDisk app can be obtained via the download link below.
