Via a sign that reads “Hurry, offer ends 9/7,” Apple is signaling that its Back to School promotion, which nabs eligible students a free iPod touch (mail in rebate), is coming to an end.

Buyers must get a qualifying Mac as well as the iPod touch with Apple education pricing from May 25, 2010, through September 7, 2010.

“If you're a college student or a faculty or staff member at any grade level and you buy a new Mac with Apple education pricing from May 25 through September 7, 2010, you can get a qualifying 8GB iPod touch for free,” Apple explains over at its web store.

Unfortunately, they receive an online rebate of $199 for a second-generation 8GB iPod touch.

“Along with tons of other great features, iPod touch has built-in Wi-Fi for downloading thousands of games, movies, songs, apps, and amazing, free educational content from iTunes U,” Apple touts its offer.

The Mac maker proceeds with listing the benefits of using a Mac in school, saying “Every Mac can run Microsoft Office and Windows. So no matter what your courses require, you can run everything you need on a Mac.”

A Mac also works with one’s existing files, Apple outlines: “A Mac is compatible with the files you use every day, including Microsoft Office docu- ments, JPEGs, PDFs, MP3s, ZIP files, and more.”

As usual, the Cupertino-based electronics and software vendor reminds potential buyers that Macs come preloaded with “the world’s most advanced operating system,” Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

The OS is not only easy to use and incredibly powerful, Apple stresses, it also “ensures that the Mac isn’t susceptible to PC viruses, and built- in defenses help keep other malware out.”

Apple points customers’ attention to the durable unibody enclosure of the MacBook, saying it will “withstand campus life, in and out of the classroom,” as well as the long-lasting battery, which is 7-hours minimum on entry-level MacBooks.

Finally, iLife is advertised. The suite, comprised of iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb, iDVD, and GarageBand, is included with every new Mac.
