If you’re into gadgetry, 2014 has been spectacular! Apple alone has flooded the market with all-new devices as well as key upgrades in existing categories, with a few multi-billion dollar acquisitions on the side.

Two days from now we’ll be crossing into the New Year, which promises several new & exciting announcements from the Cupertino giant, starting with one highly anticipated wearable computer that we know for a fact is real.

Apple Watch incoming!

Even the Swiss are worried. After decades of running a business with virtually no competition other than from fellow watchmakers, companies like Rolex, Omega, and Tissot are worried. Apple is finally bringing the fashion factor into smartwatches.

Unlike the clunky, plasticky alternatives offered by Pebble and Samsung, Apple Watch is crafted with the best materials (one of them even comes in gold). If you’re embarrassed to wear a ZeWatch, you’ll scramble to get an Apple Watch.

Apple becomes cheap for the first time

Price is a factor, but this time Apple will have the upper hand. Luxury watches cost thousands of dollars, whereas Apple’s little gem will only cost a few hundred, maybe more if you want it to come in a gold chassis. But Apple’s asking price will still be far below those put forth by the aforementioned Swiss watchmakers.

According to the Mac maker, the base model will retail for $350 American. It will probably sell for €350 across Europe as well. The Edition model is expected to sell for well beyond $1,000 / €1,000.

An impending revolution

Imagine everyone getting used to the idea that a watch can be more than just a fashion statement with timekeeping on the side. Apple has already packed its sapphire enclave with countless communication features, sensors that can track your physiology, wireless capabilities, and immersive watch-faces and complications.

Best of all, it’s the first device of its kind that everyone will want to touch and experience. It’s quite possible that the watch industry will forever change starting with 2015, and it will be a bumpy road for the watchmaker that isn’t already working on its answer to the Apple Watch.

Apple is on track to start selling the device in early 2015, according to a memo on its web site.
