In 2003, eight customers dissatisfied by the quality of their iPods' batteries decided that they should sue Apple.

They reproached the Cupertino company that the battery from the second and third generation iPods only lasted for four hours after which it required recharge and after 18 months the owner had to replace it completely.

So after more than two years, Apple decided that it's best to reach a settlement and it offers now all users who file a complaint related to the battery's life a $50 coupon and extended warranty (2 years instead of 1) for the repaired or replaced battery.

The coupon may be used to buy Apple products from any physical or virtual store for 18 months after the settlement becomes effective. To be able to access this program, users will have present the receipt received after purchasing the iPod. The coupon cannot be used to buy music from iTunes.

The settlement might become effective on August 25, the lawyers involved in this trial estimate that 2 million consumers might benefit from it.
