Apple has recently announced that in a very short time, somewhere towards the end of the week, it will distribute the 2 millionth copy of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. The sales results include copies retailed through specific channels, included in maintenance contracts and the ones pre-installed
on Mac systems.
According to Apple's statements, these results point out that Tiger is the system with the fastest distribution rate ever launched, if one takes into consideration that the system has only two months of existence.
In the same time, hundreds of third party developers are putting a lot of effort into providing support for Apple's latest operating system. So far, third party developers have proposed 400 Dashboard applications, 550 Automator actions and 40 plug-ins.
During the opening speech at the WorldWide Developers Conference, Jobs announced that the next update of the Mac OS X operating system will be called Leopard. Although Apple's CEO didn't detailed this subject too much, he did say that Leopard will be launched somewhere towards the end of 2006, possibly 2007, right after Microsoft launches Longhorn.
