A reputable source of news has gone on record to say that Apple’s rumored iPad 2 event is real and happening March 2nd, next week.

Reporting for All Things D, Kara Swisher claims to have heard from multiple sources that “Apple will hold its much-anticipated event on March 2, where the tech giant seems poised to unveil a new version of its hugely successful iPad.”

A potential Apple event scheduled for the end of February has been in the news for quite a while now; therefore, this report does not come as a surprise, but rather as a relief for those who were eager to see the next-generation of iPads, and perhaps not only.

The Cupertino-based Mac maker is also expected to unveil new MacBook Pro computers, and even revamped iMacs, though the latter is less likely.

Citing “several sources close to the situation,” Swisher outlines that the Wednesday date is “firm and will take place in San Francisco,” likely at Apple’s favorite venue for such gatherings - the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

Thus, it is believed that Apple will start sending invitations to its press event as soon as today, in order to allow everyone to make the proper preparations for the new unveilings.

The reporter specifically states that “this date is confirmed,” though admits the confirmation is individual, as it remains to be corroborated by Apple itself via said invites.

There is also speculation about Steve Jobs’ presence on stage at the event, but recent developments indicate the CEO is in no condition to introduce any new products for Apple.

Jobs, soon to be 56 years old, has been caught on film walking feebly towards his wife’s car as the two were preparing to visit a cancer clinic, fueling more speculation that he has little time left to live.
