Sources from the supply chain are saying that huge orders have been placed

Apple and Samsung have been at odds for years now, for more than one reason, but this once, at least, I'm not about to get into the whole patent war.

Instead, it's the more benign aspect of their rivalry I've had my attention diverted towards, thanks to a reports published by Digitimes.

But first, some context: Apple currently leads the tablet market with the iPad, shipping more of those than, or just as many as, Android tablets put together.

Samsung is one of, if not the greatest supplier of Android slates.

According to Taiwan-based TFT-LCD panel makers, these two companies will ship, together, 110 million tablets in 2013.

The estimate is based on orders from international tablet vendors and China-based white-box ones.

Other international vendors will ship 50 million slates this year, and white-box vendors as many as 100 million units.
