Apple knows they need to work on Maps. Improving their product started with faster turnarounds for updates and correcting errors and it continues with 3D flyover tours for more and more cities.

A flyover tour will not make the Maps app more useful, but it will surely make it more beautiful than the Google Maps one. Macrumors has noticed that iOS 8 and OS X flyovers page has recently been changed to show 90 cities, parks, and landmarks. The users can view interactive 3D maps in those cities and 40 of them already have automated Flyover tours.

Among the new ones you will see Auckland, Barcelona, Boston, New York, Denver, Madrid, London, San Francisco, Stockholm, Tokyo, Vancouver, Paris, Rome or San Jose.

Apple has shown the flyover tours in the iOS Beta version and the developer previews for OS X Yosemite. Some of them have been tweaked. Also, the new cities that have Flyover tours now show up with a "3D" inscription, rather than the usual dot placed on the map to mark a city.

Apple will open the gates of Maps with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. MapKit is the new API that allows developers to use Maps right into their apps and provide locations or directions to places on the map.
