Apple has been awarded a trademark for its memorable catchphrase “there’s an app for that”, which refers to the usability of the iPhone and iPod touch through hundreds of thousands of applications available in the iTunes App Store. The company has also filed for a Game Center trademark in China, sources inform.

According to afterdawn.com, the company headquartered at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, Calif. filed for the trademark last year, in December. Officially, its first commercial use occurred in January 2009.   The trademark applies to "retail store services featuring computer software provided via the Internet and other computer and electronic communication networks; retail store services featuring computer software for use on handheld mobile digital electronic devices and other consumer electronics."

[ADMARK=]Filed in the Advertising, Business and Retail Services, Computer and Software Services and Scientific Services categories, the catchphrase is now Apple’s to own.

In a separate report, it is revealed that Apple has also filed for a trademark in China. The object is Game Center, filed under a single International Class covering video and computer game software.

Game Center is Apple’s new social gaming network for iOS device owners. Supported on iPhone, iPod touch and, beginning this November, the iPad too, Game Center allows players to compete in multiplayer games, have their names listed on leader-boards, unlock achievements and more.

The trademark applies to “computer software; video and computer game software; computers; computer hardware; handheld digital electronic devices.”

According to Patently Apple, Apple asserts a claim of priority based on their Jamaican application number 55424, filed in August 2010.

The site, which reports on Apple-related patent applications, trademarks and so on, believes “it should be noted that China's Patent and Trademark Office noted in this report is officially known as the Intellectual Property Department, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.”
