The CEO cautions that opening up a platform also puts the customer at risk

Under Tim Cook’s watch, Apple has already become a more open company just two years into his reign. But the CEO plans to open up Apple even more, according to a recent interview.

Cook confessed to Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher at D11 that he doesn’t have a “religious issue” with putting an app on Android, “if it made sense to do that.”

With such a positive attitude, you’d expect Apple to become a lot more open in the future. And Cook concurred: “I think you will see us open up more in the future,” he said.

However, he followed with the following remark: “But not to the degree that we put the customer at risk of having a bad experience.”

In other words, while Cook may soon render iOS jailbreaking obsolete, you shouldn’t expect the ability to install every single tweak developed on a daily basis.

Asked to provide a clear answer, Cook says “Yes, [Apple will open up more].”
