You will be able to shower with the Apple Watch after all

We reported two weeks ago that the Apple Watch might be water resistant, and it turns out that it is. However, according to Apple, the smartwatch is not waterproof, which means that you won’t be able to wear it on your wrist for a long time underwater (diving/swimming), but you will be able to shower and wash your hands without taking it off.

Apple unveiled some details about its brand-new Apple Watch product during the “Spring Forward” event that took place a couple of days ago, on March 9, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, USA, where selected members of the press were able to test the smartwatch.

The fact of the matter is that Apple only announced the general availability, customization options, and pricing details about Apple Watch during the said event, but nothing else. It would have been nice for them to talk more about its waterproofness, and other important details, such as if the battery is removable or not.

Apple Watch is water resistant to a depth of 1 meter for only 30 minutes

“Apple Watch is splash and water resistant but not waterproof. You can, for example, wear and use Apple Watch during exercise, in the rain, and while washing your hands, but submerging Apple Watch is not recommended. Apple Watch has a water resistance rating of IPX7 under IEC standard 60529. The leather bands are not water resistant,” was stated on the Apple Watch website.

This means that Apple Watch is water resistant to a depth of 1 meter for only 30 minutes. Most probably, we will see a lot of YouTube videos of people testing the waterproofness of the Apple Watch in the upcoming weeks when the device will be available for purchase, after April 24, 2015. We will also see numerous complains about the Apple Watch product in the upcoming months, which will lead to Apple Watch 2.
