T-Mobile CEO John Legere believes the technology world is about to go through another paradigm shift

Remember how the term “MP3 player” got replaced by “iPod” in the 2000s? Apple is about to redefine a category of devices in a similar manner, according to one guy who has tremendous intuition and the results to prove it.

The uncarrier boss at T-Mobile, known for his incisive views of the mobile space, is rooting for the Apple Watch. In a blog post packed to the brim with predictions for 2015, he projects tremendous success for Apple’s wearable computer. And there’s no reason to dismiss his forecast, looking at how T-Mobile grows quarter by quarter solely based on this guy’s vision.

“I love what Jawbone, Fitbit, Samsung, LG, Microsoft and others are doing in the wearables space,” the outspoken Legere writes. “But we haven’t begun to see the potential of this category. And though we won’t see its full impact in 2015, I believe that the Apple Watch will mark the tipping point when wearables go from niche to mainstream.”

Features, features, features

Smartwatches are already out there, but few people are dying to own one. And those who are buying them are merely experimenting, not knowing what they’re getting in return for their buck.

With the Apple Watch, the benefits are stated loud and clear: accurate physiology tracking, at-a-glance info and notifications, actual messaging without pulling out your phone, contactless payments, the guarantee of an Apple build, a design to kill for, and the list could go on. Did you know you can actually use Maps on this thing?

Considering current watch prices (good ones, not Chinese knockoffs), Apple’s $350 / €350 device will suddenly appear cheap in the eye of the consumer. Imagine that: Apple selling something cheap.
