Apple Was Most Visited Hardware Site in May

According to The Nielsen Company, Apple brought more than twice as many unique visitors to its website in May than Hewlett Packard. Apple's Web site saw 55.7 million unique visitors last month, a research carried out by Nielsen showed, and the iPhone 3G S seems to be the main reason for the huge figures. “Anticipatory buzz around the release of the latest model of the iPhone most likely helped Apple secure the top traffic spot among hardware manufacturers in May 2009,” The Nielsen Company says in a report. “The site drew 55.7 million unique viewers, more than double that of Hewlett Packard, which attracted more than 21 million visitors.”

Undoubtedly, the reasons cited for such a huge number of unique visitors are correct. Apple’s iPhone 3G S generated a huge buzz even before the device was confirmed. However, Apple’s site has surely been visited by many who did not know what exactly had changed, whether MMS would be immediately available, who was eligible for the $199 upgrade price, and more.

“In June, anticipation of the new iPhone 3G S sent blog mentions up 1,226 percent week-over-week on June 8, the day of the announcement,” the report continues to outline. “After the initial announcement, buzz dipped but again picked up after the phone became available to consumers on June 19, with blog mentions more than doubling compared to the week prior,” The Nielsen Company adds.

But, whatever the reasons Apple’s site scored so many visits, it clearly spells more and more adopters for the company. It will be interesting to see the market share Apple will (most likely) disclose at its next big event. During the company’s latest keynote address, delivered by Phil Schiller, Apple noted an increased number of Mac adopters, pointing out to the iPhone as one of the reasons.
