New Job Opportunities available at Apple

Apple is looking for a lab tester who has experience with HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access). The technology pushes the 3G boundaries even further, leaving the current UMTS (3G) technology in a trail of dust.

On Apple's web site, under Job Opportunities, the job title says Cellular Systems Perf Eng – Lab Test. The benchmarks are to be run in Santa Clara Valley by a person that has no problem with a Full Time job. Education requirements include Bachelor – CS/EE, while the employee would need to have at least three years of experience in the field. A full job description is yet to be added, nonetheless additional requirements have been posted.

From Apple's employment section,

Standards: GSM-GPRS-EDGE-WCDMA-HSDPA-HSUPA (WCDMA-HSDPA knowledge is a must – rest is optional). Knowledge of Layer 3 messaging (message flows, as well as message contents) and inter-layer interaction is a must.

Equipment: Anite SAS, Anite SAT, Agilent Lab App (8960), R&S CMU200/SMU200, R&S CRTU-G/W/ML-API, Anritsu MD8470, Anritsu MD8480/RTD, Spirent APEX, Spirent 5500 fading emulator, Spirent 8100 UMTS Performance System. (knowledge of either Anite SAS/SAT or Anritsu MD8480/RTD or R&S CRTU/ML-API is [an] absolute must).

Programming Skills: C/C++, TTCN (Perl and Visual Basic is a bonus, but not a must).

World of Apple reports that the implementation of HSDPA in the iPhone would increase speeds dramatically. HSDPA is allegedly able to offer download speeds of up to 14MBit/s. UMTS “real-world speeds” are actually keeping download speeds down to a minimum, in contrast to what the technologies available today can deliver, the report reveals.

If you think you've got what it takes to make these kinds of tests on Apple's iPhone, check out Apple's Job Opportunities section here. Besides a lab tester, Apple also needs an analyst who knows his way around with HSUPA (High Speed Uplink Packet Access). More on that here.
