Apple has begun notifying MobileMe users that the upgrade to the new Calendar service is going live on May 5. The upgrade includes an updated web app. Those who wish to proceed with the upgrade are urged to confirm that they have the necessary system requirements and, of course, to back up their data.

Available from MobileMe's calendar page, the new MobileMe Calendar is available for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, and Windows PC users alike.

It includes what Apple calls “the best calendar service for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch,” calendar sharing and publishing (including group publishing), event invitations with RSVPs, and the new web application.

The new web application offers enhanced calendar tables, which include redesigned day, week, and month views, as well as a new list view to make event scanning easier, faster, and more reliable.

According to Apple, the new web application doesn’t have a specific requirement as far as web browsers are concerned, but it does note that best results will be achieved with Safari 5, Firefox 3.6, and Internet Explorer 8.

To start using the new MobileMe Calendar, customers are required to sign in to me.com/calendar, click "Upgrade now" in the lower left corner of the Calendar web application, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Those who have already been using the Calendar beta between July 7, 2010 and October 14 2010 don't need to do anything - they are automatically signed up for immediate use.

In addition to the aforementioned recommended web browsers, MobileMe Calendar users will also need to employ an iPhone or iPod touch that supports iOS 4.1, or an iPad running iOS 4.2.

On the computer side, requirements include Mac OS X Snow Leopard version 10.6.4 for Macintosh users, and MobileMe Control Panel version 1.6.3 and Outlook 2007 or 2010 for Windows PC users.

Visit Apple’s MobileMe support page for more information.
