14 DAY TRIAL // Apple has released new updates for its Remote Desktop software, including the Client and Admin builds, as well as the Dashboard Widget component.
Apple Remote Desktop 3.7.1 is a free update for Apple's in-house Remote Desktop application and for the clients it administers remotely.
According to a tech note on Apple support, “The 3.7.1 update is recommended for all Apple Remote Desktop clients and addresses several issues related to overall reliability, usability and compatibility.”
The updates, available both for Client and Admin customers, further add support for OS X Mavericks, automatic copy and paste between local and remote computers, improved support for Macs rigged with multiple displays and multiple IP addresses, gesture support for swiping between screens to improve multi-observe, improved screen sharing, and overall stability improvements.
According to another Support document, the 3.7.1 update includes additional “specific improvements,” such as:
- Prevents an issue that could cause the OS X Firewall to block Remote Desktop connections. - Improves reliability of the kickstart command. - Fixes the “Display full screen” option in Control & Observe preferences.
Remote Desktop 3.7.1 system requirements include OS X Lion v10.7.5, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks, a previous installation of Apple Remote Desktop 3.0 or newer, or version 3.7 or later if you’re running Mavericks.
Apple also released Apple Remote Desktop Dashboard Widget v3.7, which “gives you an instant, at-a-glance view of the remote computers in your network.”
The company also notes that the widget is “fully integrated with the Apple Remote Desktop administrative application,” but makes no mentioning of any changes in this update.
The Cupertino giant also points out that the widget only works with a licensed copy of Apple Remote Desktop installed on your Mac. System requirements include OS X v10.7 (Lion) or later.
