In light of the iTunes 8.1 update, Apple has released a new version of its Remote application for iPhone and iPod touch. The free-to-download app provides compatibility with the latest version of iTunes, as well as a number of bug fixes.

From the iTunes App Store, the app's description goes as follows:

Be a mobile DJ. With Remote, you can control the music on your computer or Apple TV from your iPod touch or iPhone. Play, pause, skip, shuffle. See your songs, playlists, and album art. Update to iTunes 8 and you can create a Genius playlist or edit an existing playlist. And do it all on your iPod touch or iPhone as if you were right in front of your computer. Remote works with your Wi-Fi network, so you can control playback from anywhere in and around your home.

According to Apple, setting up Remote is fairly simple. You simply need to pair your iPod touch or iPhone with your computer and Apple TV using a unique passcode, and you'll be ready to employ it in no time. It makes use of the same music playback controls you’re familiar with on iPod touch or iPhone and even integrates with iTunes' Genius feature. You can tap the Genius icon to create a Genius playlist in your iTunes, hit Refresh for a different result, or choose New and get a completely different playlist. That's not all Remote can do. You can also use it to search your entire iTunes music library or edit existing playlists.

Remote main features include:

- Control the music on iTunes or Apple TV; - See the album artwork on your Remote; - Create and update Genius playlists; - Edit playlists in iTunes; - Search your whole iTunes library; - Control your AirTunes speakers.
