Apple has set up a new section on its website entirely dedicated to the status of its recently-introduced MobileMe service. Having taken off to a pretty rough start, MobileMe has been constantly tweaked up ever since its release, thus the MobileMe status page was in order. Apple's latest (written) update to users reveals it has been able to restore most of the email history, while also addressing device compatibility issues for some 40% of the users. Read on for the full details.

David G. of Apple's MobileMe team has been assigned by Steve Jobs himself to write a post "every other day or so" to inform users of the issues surrounding MobileMe, or of the improvements occurring after the acknowledgment of said issues. The latest MobileMe Status post reveals that Apple has "turned on web access to [users'] current email yesterday and the feedback has been cautiously positive." Apple's David G. adds that "since then, we've restored full email history (minus the approximately 10% of mail received between July 18 and July 22 which may have been lost) and the ability to access email from a Mac, PC and iPhone, to over 40% of these users, and expect the remainder to be restored in the next few days."

Apple also notes that "a note of clarification to these 1% of MobileMe users - all of the email you received between July 18 and July 22 was placed on [their] new server on July 23 and was stamped with that date as a result." As a user, "if you need the actual date for particular messages you can take advantage of the ability to view long headers in MobileMe Mail (via Preferences) to peer into the log and find the actual mailing time and date," Apple advises.

The Mac makers also promise to post another update for MobileMe users this week.

MobileMe, Apple's new service, automatically pushes new email, contacts, and calendar events to your Mac, PC, iPhone and iPod touch and other mobile devices. The software was designed by Apple to make sure all your information stays up to date, everywhere. MobileMe also provides support for push email, calendar, and contacts on your iPhone and any computer. The changes you make on one device are automatically "pushed" to the MobileMe "cloud," then back to every device you use.
