Looks like the Fatboy was not fake...

Initial rumors about the new iPods seemed almost too good to be true and when leaked images of the nano came out people became skeptical about the 'Fatboy nano' look, despite Apple legally forcing the images off sites. With Apple's media event behind us, the new nano look is official and so are all the other rumored features.

The third generation of nano, in as many years, features multiple improvements over the previous models. The big 2-inch screen with a 320x240 resolution that supports video playback as well as the high-quality games, and the high 204 dots-per-inch resolution is the most ever for an Apple-made device. The nano has an almost square look and the design completely eliminates the use of plastic end caps while becoming even thinner than before at 0.25 inches. The new model also features the new iPod interface, with its split screen system that allows for seeing album art and other content on one side while scrolling through menus on another. Cover Flow has now also become part of the design and lets users browse music and videos by album covers or video previews, viewing track details after selecting the album. While the new form factor might not please everyone, the new screen is indeed stunning, and both the interface and movies look unbelievingly good.

Sudoku, Vortex, and one other game are included out of the box, according to Apple, and according to the company the new models will offer 24 hours of continuous music and 5 hours of video. Much like the new Shuffles, the nanos now have a new color palette, which includes black, cranberry, light blue, light green and silver alongside a new Product (RED) model. Models should be available beginning today from the online Apple Store in 4GB for $149 and 8GB for $249.
