With numerous 27-inch iMac users reporting screen-flickering issues and other strange behavior, December 2009 saw Apple release a certain 27-inch iMac Graphics Firmware Update. It now appears that 27-inch iMacs are still in need of a bit of attention, with Apple releasing the “27-inch iMac Display Firmware Update 1.0.”

Talking about the 27-inch iMac Display Firmware Update 1.0 on the Downloads section of its website, Apple says it addresses issues that may cause an intermittent display flickering, on 27-inch iMac systems. “The 27-inch iMac Display Update will update the display firmware on your iMac. Do not disturb or shut off the power on your iMac during this update,” the Mac maker adds.

In usual Apple manner, iMac users are taken deeper into the Support section of the company’s site, where the firmware update is detailed on a bigger scale. “The 27-inch iMac Display Firmware Update 1.0 updates the display firmware on 27-inch iMac computers to address issues that may cause intermittent display flickering,” Apple states. The Mac maker then proceeds with offering instructions on how to properly apply the new firmware update, listing the steps.

An important note is also available for those who continue to experience issues after the installation. “If your screen remains black after applying the update, contact AppleCare or an Apple Authorized Service Provider,” Apple says. “If you continue to experience image corruption or display flickering, make sure you have also installed the 27-inch iMac Graphics Firmware Update 1.0. If you are still having display issues after successfully completing both firmware updates, contact AppleCare or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.”

The new firmware is to be installed on systems running Mac OS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard), and is localized in several different languages.
