Apple has begun sending out emails notifying former MobileMe customers that their complementary 20GB of storage has expired, as of today. Customers are being reverted to the free 5GB plan.

In an email sent out to iCloud users who, up until now were swimming in storage space, Apple says, “As a thank you for being a former MobileMe member, you received a 20 GB complimentary storage upgrade when you moved to iCloud. Your upgrade has expired.”

“Your iCloud storage has been automatically adjusted to the free 5 GB plan. You are currently using 4 GB of storage,” the Cupertino giant adds.

The company links to support document HT5527 for more information on this move.

Customers who have already purchased a storage plan will not be required to take any action. Apple advises customers who were using more than 5 GB of storage to “either reduce the amount of iCloud storage that you're using, or purchase a storage plan with a larger amount of storage than you’re currently using.”
