As revealed in the changelog for Apple TV 3.0 software, you can now buy select movies and albums with iTunes Extras and iTunes LP directly on your Apple TV. The company developing these entertainment products has posted an extensive document explaining the particularities of the new additions.

Posted on October 30, 2009, Apple Support document HT3916 reveals to those owning an Apple set-top-box that, “When you buy a film with iTunes Extras on your Apple TV, you’ll receive the featured movie and chapter selection along with special features such as movie stills, deleted scenes, exclusive interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage. When you purchase an album with iTunes LP on your Apple TV, you receive the songs from the album, plus special features such as lyrics, photos, videos, credits, and more.” Apple notes that Apple TV version 3.0 or later is required for iTunes Extras and iTunes LP content and that special features vary by title.

The company then moves to explain that, “Movies with iTunes Extras content will display the iTunes Extras badges in the upper right-hand corner of the item's product page and the icon in the Movie Details section.” Apple posts relevant imagery (screenshots) to emphasize how the feature works. “Albums with iTunes LP content will display the iTunes LP badge below the album art in the album's product page and the icon to the left of the iTunes LP item,” Apple continues to stress.

Customers are also informed that movie and iTunes Extras content is downloaded to My Movies on their Apple TV’s hard drive. The content can be identified by the icon to the right of it, according to imagery posted at Apple’s Support section. Customers are also shown / explained how to play an iTunes Extras movie on their Apple TV, or navigate to a recently purchased movie with iTunes Extras.

iTunes LP, the second major feature just added to the Apple TV software, provides full-screen, additional content for select music albums, including live performance videos, lyrics, artwork, liner notes, interviews, photos, and more. According to Apple, album and iTunes LP content will download to My Music when the customer purchases an album with iTunes LP from the iTunes Store on their Apple TV. Such an album can be identified by the icon to the right of it, just like with movies that contain extras.
