Apple will be using the Las Vegas SuperMeet event to announce the next version of Final Cut Pro, according to various sources in the video industry.

ProVideoCoalition reports that sponsors, including AJA, Avid, Canon, BlackMagic, Autodesk and others have seen their appearances canceled as the folks at Apple want the stage only for themselves.

According to the report, Canon was told this week that Apple had demanded all “lecturn” or stage time exclusively.

Avid chimed in to confirm that SuperMeet’s Michael Horton informed them that their sponsorship had been canceled, as “Apple doesn’t want anyone to have stage time but them.”

Black Magic gave a no comment, but did acknowledge changes with their SuperMeet sponsorship.

The final and most indicative clue comes from the actual SuperMeet website, which has dropped all previously mentioned presenters in favor of a “very special guest.”

“The Final Cut Pro User Group Network is excited to have a very special guest presentation at the 10th Annual Las Vegas FCPUG SuperMeet,” reads the new announcement. “Come to see a surprise sneak peek at something very special - you really do not want to miss this one!”

While it may seem strange that Apple will be using SuperMeet instead of NAB to showcase their new Final Cut Pro, it is not unlikely.

In February, Director Larry Jordan informed via a blog post that “Apple invited a few folks, including me, to a short meeting in Cupertino where they previewed the up-coming version of Final Cut Pro.”

“While the invited crowd was small, it was a Who’s Who of leaders in the post-production community,” he said. “I felt like I was standing on the red carpet at an awards show, watching all the stars walk past.”

He was utterly impressed by the new video editing toolset, and said “There will be LOTS to talk about as this project gets closer.”

One of the attendees reportedly said the next Final Cut Pro is "the biggest overhaul to Final Cut Pro since the original version was created over 10 years ago."
