Hello 160GBs

Everybody is messing around with their new Apple TVs, whether simply by watching their movies or by opening it up and modding it to play World of Warcraft. With all this interest going about, it's not surprising that enterprising companies see a way to step in.

Of all the features of the Apple TV, the most talked about is the size of the hard drive. Many feel it is too small, while others think it's just right considering that the purpose of the box is to stream content. Regardless of how you may feel, there really isn't much to be done because Apple only offers one model of the Apple TV. But it looks like that is changing.

MacService has expanded their offerings of Apple upgrades and repairs to include a new Apple TV Upgrade. This upgrade service replaces the internal drive that Apple shipped with a bigger one, up to 160GB, allowing over 200 hours of video, 36,000 songs, or 100,000 photos to be stored on the AppleTV. This would allow even the most avid collectors of content elbow room not to feel cramped.

The people at MacService send a courier over to pick up the little box, improve it and then send it back to you with the initial hard drive alongside. Everything is taken care of, including transfer of any content that might have been stored inside the Apple TV when you sent it in, and there is no additional configuration or software involved. The downside however is that this might very well void your warranty. While MacService mentions that all their hard drives are brand new and carry a 3 year warranty, they make no mention of the Apple TV warranty.
