Apple is offering an updated pre-release version of the Apple TV Software to developers for testing AirPlay with their iOS apps.

Issued on a regular basis, primarily when new iOS betas are rolled out, Apple TV Software betas enable third-party application developers to mirror content of an iPad to an Apple TV using AirPlay.

According to Apple’s documentation, “Apple TV Software beta is being provided to test the latest AirPlay functionality with your iOS apps and web sites.”

Installing a pre-release Apple TV Software beta requires a USB to micro-USB cable and a set-top box whose UDID is in the iOS Developer Program database (registered with Apple).

To return the Apple TV to a public version of its OS, users must simply connect the device to a computer, select it in iTunes, and click Restore. Visit Apple’s iOS Dev Center to download Apple TV Software Beta 3 today.
