Launching with a “suggested retail price” of R1,099 ($99 in the US), the Apple TV is finally being released in South Africa, according to Core Group, the official distributor of Apple products in the region.

The distributor said in a press statement, “Although Core Group may suggest retail prices, these are suggestions only and resellers are entirely free to determine the actual prices at which products will be sold.”

According to mybroadband.co.za, the Apple TV will be made available on Friday, January 18 (today) via Apple Premium Resellers iStore, Digicape, and select Apple Authorized Retailers, including Incredible Connection, Dion Wired, Makro, and Hi-Fi Corporation.

The third-generation Apple TV with 1080p HD offers access to movies, TV shows, sports, customers’ own music and photos, and more. The set-top box can also play content from iOS devices on a big-screen TV using AirPlay.
