14 DAY TRIAL // fireCore has updated its Apple TV jailbreak software and add-ons to support the new 5.2 software update from Apple, which delivers keyboard support and other goodies. Seas0nPass can now jailbreak Apple TVs on iOS 5.2 (6.1).
The company makes the news official on its blog, saying, “The wait is over, and today we’re happy to release updated versions of aTV Flash (black) and Seas0nPass that support the recently released 5.2 (iOS 6.1) Apple TV software.”
Crediting the evad3rs for the much needed exploits to beef up Seas0nPass for Apple TV 5.2 support, fireCore continues with a list of new features now available in aTV Flash (black) 2.2.
One important addition is keyboard support, enabling users to control their jailbroken set-top boxes for web browsing and media playback using a Bluetooth keyboard.
“To the delight of many loyal users, Apple officially added support for Bluetooth keyboards in Apple TV 5.2, and we’ve been working non-stop to provide a seamless experience in aTV Flash (black) 2.2,” says fireCore.
“Now features such as web browsing, media playback, library browsing and more can all be controlled using a wireless keyboard. Don’t worry, the normal remote will still work as well,” according to the company.
aTV Flash 2.2 also delivers minor improvements to backups and DVD playback and a few other bug fixes and improvements.
fireCore asks users to note that Plex, Remote HD, Rowmote, XBMC, and other 3rd party plugins are not yet compatible with the current Apple TV software.
According to fireCore, aTV Flash (black) 2.2 installs on any ATV2 running software version 4.4 and later. Updating to 5.2 is actually not required.
“However, should you so desire, the best way to update can be found below,” says the company.
“1. Backup your settings through the Maintenance > Manage Backups menu. 2. Run the latest version of Seas0nPass to update the Apple TV to 5.2. 3. Download and install the new 2.2 version of aTV Flash (black). 4. Install any desired items through the Maintenance > Manage Extras menu. 5. Restore the previously saved settings through the Maintenance > Manage Backups menu.”
