14 DAY TRIAL // The iPhone Dev Team can tick another item on their list of compromised Apple devices, with Musclenerd officially announcing via Twitter that Apple TV 2G has been “SHAttered and jailbroken.” He admits they still have a long way to go before putting apps on the iTV’s flash memory.
“AppleTV 2G SHAttered and jailbroken,” reads Musclenerd’s recent tweet. “Not quite sure how to run apps yet!”, he writes in Brackets.
The iPhone Dev Team blog was then updated with the same announcement, albeit a more detailed one. “It’s confirmed…SHAtter can trick Apple’s new AppleTV 2G into restoring to a pre-jailbroken IPSW from PwnageTool too! Literally the only UI application on the ATV is Lowtide.app, but now the window is open for jailbroken apps of all varieties.
(Just like the early iPhone days, the only apps you’ll see on the AppleTV will be jailbroken ones). In the meantime, here’s a video showing root access (via ssh) into Apple’s new product.”
Earlier this week, Softpedia reported that iPhone developer chpwn was the first to notice the Apple TV 4.1 firmware update on Apple’s servers and post a link to it on Twitter.
The iPhone Dev Team grabbed it to try out the SHAtter exploit by @pod2g on it. As expected, they found that it was jailbreakable.
There are now four devices that the iPhone Dev Team is focused on providing jailbreak solutions for: iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and Apple TV.
