Device specifications leak via a source deemed ‘solid’

Reports say that Apple and US operator Sprint have signed an agreement according to which the latter will buy over $20 billion worth of iPhones over the course of several years.

The Sprint deal is said to be exclusive, something which even the least knowledgeable pundit will have a hard time believing.

However, BGR says their source is rock solid, and that it corroborates a Wall Street Journal report that says exactly the same thing.

The blog upholds that Sprint will be getting not the rumored iPhone 4S, but the full-fledged iPhone 5 and exclusively at that.

If you are wondering why on earth would Apple sign an exclusive agreement with a carrier that has far fewer customers than AT&T and Verizon (currently the only two iPhone carriers in the United States), I can’t answer that because I’m asking myself the same thing.

Along those lines, BGR also finds the tidbit quite surreal, but $20 billion is a lot not to consider it a possibility.

Now, their source also leaked some hardware specifications. According to them, there will be two iPhones launching today.

Per the information offered by this source, the iPhone 4S will have the following specs: a modified A5 chip; updated front and back camera sensors; multi-band Qualcomm chipset (world phone); NFC (near field communication) support; metal or ‘premium’ plastic for the back case.

The iPhone 5, according to the same person, will sport a faster processor; a larger, 4-inch screen; 1GB of RAM and 32GB of NAND Flash storage; a slightly larger overall design, albeit thinner; a bigger battery; exclusive software and APIs; a dedicated Assistant function likely triggered by a new ‘two-stage’ Home button similar to those used for camera shutters.
