Apple has confirmed to employees that retail operations will shut down for one hour on October 19th, during the Steve Jobs celebration event. The time will be used to watch a live webcast of the celebration in Cupertino.

Following Jobs’ death on October 5th, Apple announced that the company would hold a celebration event to commemorate their iconic visionary on October 19th, which falls this week, on Wednesday.

The event is not as much intended to mourn Jobs, but to celebrate the man, his achievements and, of course, his legacy.

The company’s new CEO, Timothy D. Cook, addressed everyone at Apple via email saying, “Team, like many of you, I have experienced the saddest days of my lifetime and shed many tears during the past week.”

“Although many of our hearts are still heavy, we are planning a celebration of his life for Apple employees to take time to remember the incredible things Steve achieved in his life and the many ways he made our world a better place,” Cook wrote.

The CEO confirmed in his email to employees that “The celebration will be held on Wednesday, October 19, at 10am in the outdoor amphitheater on the Infinite Loop campus.”

Now, reports are coming in saying Apple Stores will be closing for one hour (1-2 EST, 10-11 PST) on that day. Retail staffers will reportedly use the time to watch a live webcast of the event in Cupertino.

In related news, California Governor Jerry Brown announced last week that Sunday, October 16th, would be known as “Steve Jobs Day” in California.

The governor tweeted the big news saying “this Sunday will be Steve Jobs day in the State of California”.

The news coincided with a private memorial organized by widow Laurene Powell Jobs and held at the Stanford University where Jobs gave a famous speech in 2005.
