Apple has pulled the plug on its web store’s interface in anticipation of today’s festivities. Notably, the outage occurs four hours ahead of the scheduled launch event for the iPhone 5.

Of course, there’s a lot more stuff “in store” for Apple fans this time around, pundits say. Not only will Tim Cook & Co. pull the cloth off an elongated iPhone today, but they’ll also introduce a new range of portable players, according to several sources.

All of Apple’s iPods are going to see a refresh today, these sources say, and there might be a redesigned nano on the table for today’s event too.

This new iPod nano is said to sport a Home button and a new version of the iOS. The player is also said to be Wi-Fi-enabled, to be able to talk to iCloud for music streaming.

Apple’s rumored plans to open up a Pandora-like service suddenly sound a lot more credible, don’t you think?

New accessories are also coming in this month, including new cables and docks matching a new 9-pin spec. And let’s not forget that there’s always room for surprises.

In other words, Apple’s online store will be packed to the rafters with new stuff later today.

Apple’s iPhone 5 event will not be live-streamed, but we’ll be covering all the announcements as they unfold at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in a few hours from now.

We’ll let you know when the store comes back up and what will be immediately available for purchase.

Don’t bet on the iPhone 5, as sources say it will not be available for pre-order until Friday, September 14.

There has been some talk about a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, but we’re not so sure it fits well with today’s planned announcements.
