Cupertino takes its web store offline, possibly to introduce new products

Apple has strangely pulled the plug on its web store today in what could signal a new product release from the Cupertino giant. No major announcements are expected until spring.

Apple yesterday reported its most profitable quarter ever. Not wanting to smudge analysts’ expectations with a new product release / refresh, the company could have held out until today to unveil its updates / upgrades.

One thing that’s been rumored to come out of Apple – without requiring a ceremonious unveiling – is a new version of the Apple TV. This new version is said to arrive with a new UI and gaming capabilities, though I can’t imagine Apple introducing such a cool new product with a simple press release and no confetti.

Apple’s store is offline at the time of this writing, but you’ll be able to access it at http://store.apple.com/ once the Mac maker decides to turn the lights back on.

Update: Apple's online store is up and running again featuring Valentine's gifts. It's not even February yet. Apple could be anticipating tight supplies.
