Today Apple released the latest version of its handy Store application for iOS, which enables customers to browse the Apple Store and shop anything right from their iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.

Update 2.9.2 is targeted at iPhone and iPod touch users and includes improvements to In-Store Notifications. Apple now offers customers the ability to view notifications in the app as well as from the Lock screen. This is a US-only feature, according to the Cupertino giant.

On iPad, Apple Store 1.1 now lets you buy Apple Store Gift Cards right from within the app. According to the company, “Gift cards can be shipped by mail or delivered within 24 hours via email and they’re available in any amount from $25 - $2,000,” which roughly translates into €18 and €1,438, respectively.

Various improvements and performance enhancements have been carried out for both versions of the app. The requirements differ from platform to platform. Apparently, the iPhone and iPod touch installment requires only iOS 6.0, whereas the iPad version calls for iOS 7 to run.

The iPhone build supports English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Swedish, and Traditional Chinese, whereas the iPad iteration is only localized in English, French, German, and Simplified Chinese.
