Parts of the custom-made "Green Monster" used to cover the Boylston Street (Boston) retail store glass fa?ade have fetched $500 on eBay, ifoAppleStore is reporting. The proceeds from the sale will go to the Boston-based boston2portland charity, which funds research on Parkinson's disease.

"The expensive, custom-made 'Green Monster' covering over the Boylston Street (Boston) retail store glass fa?ade is long gone, but now souvenir pieces of the material are beginning to surface," said the folks handling news and information about Apple's retail stores just after the Grand Opening. One person had supplied a photo of an "irregularly-shaped piece of the green stuff, about nine inches square." It didn't seem like much of a souvenir at first, but little did we know this material was actually going to support such a good cause.

The material was described as being "the thickness and strength of ordinary duct tape, and with a very strong, gray-colored adhesive backing." The green covering had been removed from the glass two days before the store opened. Workers "carefully carted it off in a large debris box," on which souvenir hunters kept a close eye. They took some of the material before the debris boxes were taken away.

Now, ifoAppleStore is reporting that a piece of that Green Monster covering has been sold to an eBay bidder for $500. "The 3-foot by 8-foot piece included a portion of Apple's famous logo, and was used to protect the glass before the store opened, as well as promote the new store with a Boston Red Sox baseball scoreboard theme," the website claims. The small piece of green plastic covering is going to webguy-phillipjackson, the auction winner. According to the seller, who wished to remain anonymous, the proceeds from the sale will go to the boston2portland charity, which funds Parkinson's disease research.

The Boylston Street Apple Retail Store Grand Opening took place Thursday, May 15. Here you will find more information about the store's Grand Opening, complete with pictures.
