The Apple online store is now featuring the Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter, a $29.00 / €23 accessory that allows users to connect a Thunderbolt-enabled Mac to a FireWire device via a small cable.

Apple advertises the accessory with typical marketing literature saying the Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter enables you to “easily connect your Thunderbolt-equipped Mac to a FireWire device.”

“Small and compact, it connects to the Thunderbolt port on your Mac computer, giving you a FireWire 800 port that supplies up to 7W for bus-powered peripherals like hard drives and audio devices,” Apple states.

The accessory requires a Thunderbolt-equipped Mac computer and OS X 10.7.4 (Lion) or later. Orders placed now are fulfilled in one to three business days.

The Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter was first unveiled at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June. Apple also sells a Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.
