Apple has confirmed that any new iDevice activated on or after September 1 would be eligible to download the company’s flagship iLife and iWork apps free of charge.

With the exception of GarageBand – which enables music aficionados to compose and record tracks on iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad –, all iLife and iWork applications are now available free of charge “for qualifying iOS 7 compatible devices activated after September 1, 2013.”

These apps include iPhoto, iMovie, Keynote, Pages, and Numbers. The move complements Apple’s decision to take its iWork productivity suite to the cloud, enabling everyone with a free iCloud account to use Keynote, Pages, and Numbers in a web browser (including Windows users).

To be clear, you don’t need one of the newest iDevices to benefit from this offer, but you will need to own an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad that has been activated after September 1.
