In order to get customers off MobileMe and on iCloud, Apple is giving away free copies of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, which they can use to download Lion from the Mac App Store, and ultimately move all their content to iCloud.

Apple is notifying those stuck on the ancient MobileMe service that they can contact the company for a free (DVD) copy of Snow Leopard, which they can install on their machine and use to download all the necessary updates to get up and running with iCloud.

The process basically involves installing Snow Leopard, updating to the latest version (10.6.8), downloading and installing Lion via the Mac App Store, and setting up iCloud once Lion is installed.

Apple is officially ending all MobileMe services this June.
