Apple has kicked off Back to School in Japan, targeting the April 1 start date of the country’s schools, offering a redeemable Gift Card worth ¥10,000 (around US$130) that can be used to purchase content from the iTunes Store.

Apple’s annual Back to School promotion is already live in Japan, offering a gift card that can be used in the iOS App Store, Mac App Store, or iTunes Store to download educational content, as well as apps and games.

The offer is available to students purchasing a new Mac. With the exception of the Mac mini, all standard and custom-configuration Macs are a go for the promotion.

For years, Apple offered a free iPod touch (mail in rebate) as part of the Back to School promo. Recently, however, the company switched to a $100 gift card that can be used to download software. Needless to point out, the shift was a huge disappointment.
