Horace Dediu over at Asymco has worked up a neat little chart which he’s flashing on Twitter showing how little Apple spends on advertising compared to its competitors, as well as other big brands.

Don’t get the wrong idea. Apple’s spending compared to that of Samsung or Microsoft, while much less, is still in the hundreds of millions.

The chart only shows just how big the differences are between the top dogs in the IT industry today. Microsoft, for instance, spends twice as much compared to Apple. Samsung spends three times more. Dell and HP are also included in the chart and so is Coca Cola, for some reason.

The reason is Apple doesn’t have to churn out as many TV spots and posters to convince people. That, and it sells a relatively small number of flagship products. All in all, Apple seems to be the most efficient advertiser of all the big tech companies, and they’ve got the quarterly earnings reports to prove it.
